Knauf was founded in 1932 by brothers Karl and Dr. Alfons N. Knauf. From its beginnings in gypsum processing, Knauf has expanded and diversified to become a global brand known for dry construction systems and solutions.

Knauf now operates worldwide with 300 production facilities in over 90 countries, 40,000 employees worldwide, and a market presence across Europe, the USA, South America, Russia, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

History of Knauf at a Glance

1932 – First gypsum plaster plant in Perl

1997 – Start of operations in China, South America and Turkey

2003 – Start of operation in Indonesia

2009 – Launch of the first location in North America

2011 – Market entry in Australia

2013 – Plasterboard plant in Thailand

2014 – Acquisition of the insulation material division of the American Guardian Group

2016 – Plasterboard plant in Vietnam

2017 – First plasterboard in the Phlippines

2019 – Acquisition of Armstrong and USG

2021 – Acquisition of USG Boral

During this transition, Knauf will retain USG Boral’s existing products as well as introduce new products and systems to the building material markets in Malaysia and Singapore by adding the latest manufacturing technologies and professional know-how to the existing manufacturing/sales capabilities.
