FIRE AND SOUND-RATED WALLS

Fire and Sound-Rated Walls

Walls that require Fire Resistance Level (FRL) and Sound Transmission Classification (STC).

Recommended Materials:

  • Stud: 64mm x 33.5mm x 0.50mm BMT
  • Wall Track: 64mm x 32mm x 0.50mm
  • Wool Insulation: 50mm x 60kg/m3
  • Lining: 2 layers of 15.9mm FireStop® Gypsum Board
  • Stud Spacing: 610mm maximum on centers

Recommended Materials:

  • Stud: 64mm x 33.5mm x 0.50mm BMT
  • Wall Track: 64mm x 32mm x 0.50mm
  • Wool Insulation: 50mm x 60kg/m3
  • Lining: 1 layer of 15.9mm FireStop® Gypsum Board
  • Stud Spacing: 610mm maximum on centers

Recommended Materials:

  • Stud: 92mm x 33.5mm x 0.55mm BMT
  • Wall Track: 92mm x 28mm x 0.50mm
  • Wool Insulation: 90mm x 60kg/m3*
  • Lining: 2 layers of 15.9mm FireStop® Gypsum Board
  • Stud Spacing: 610mm maximum on centers

*removing insulation can achieve STC 48

* Fire Resistance Level (FRL) is determined by how long it takes before ‘failure’ of the three criteria (structural adequacy, integrity, and insulation) are deemed to have occurred in case of fire.
** Sound Transmission Class (STC) is an integer rating of how well a building partition attenuates airborne sound. STC 50-55 rating is where loud sounds are faintly heard while STC 45 rating is where a loud speech can be heard but not audible.
